Lead coffin lining

Findspot:
Arrington, Cambridgeshire
Period:
Date:
Roman, AD 2nd century
Material:
Lead
Dimensions:
L. 102cm; H. 35cm; W. 38cm

This object came from the grave of a one-year old Roman child found in Cambridgeshire in 1990. The lead lining would have been placed inside an oak coffin. This coffin is much too large for the one-year old infant buried inside, implying it was not made to measure.
